A extended cruise through Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a isolated coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the party for a break. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her body the following day.

Authorities are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would attend the vessel in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Incidents

The ship originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of dollars to take part in the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

Next of Kin Response

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an planned tour without my parent".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been told, it seems that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mum's life".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mother became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, she passed away, alone."

Operator Position

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the organization was "working closely with officials to assist their examination".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its complete assistance to the family.

Shipping Sector Standards

The liner caters for up to 120 travelers with 46 crew, according to company details. It was specially constructed to access distant regions of the Australian coast and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry individuals on shore trips.

Incidents such as this are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to document which passengers are boarding or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard simply isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Shipping companies consider these procedures very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such occurrences from occurring," the expert added.
