Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
